Deck Staining in Central Arkansas

Deck staining for Central Arkansas homes: what to know

Decks in Central Arkansas take full summer sun, long humid stretches and spring storms, and the ones under trees grow mildew while the ones in the open gray and crack. A good stain job starts with cleaning off dirt, mildew and sun-damaged fibers and letting the wood dry, then working stain into the boards, rails and stairs. We serve homeowners from the hillside decks of West Little Rock to the lakeside decks of Maumelle and the newer back porches of Cabot, Bryant and Conway.

Decks take the worst of Central Arkansas weather: full summer sun, long humid stretches and spring storms. Most stains need dry wood and temperatures between about 50 and 95°F, so we aim for spring after the pollen and for fall, keep an eye on the forecast, and give the deck time to dry after cleaning before any stain goes on.

You'll know the scope before we start: what we're coating, how we'll prep it and what it will cost.

Why choose us

Why Central Arkansas homeowners choose Revive Paint

We started Revive Paint with a simple idea: do careful work, tell people the truth and clean up after ourselves.

Cleaning done right

Dirt, mildew and gray, sun-damaged fibers have to come off before stain can soak in, so cleaning is part of every job.

The right stain for your deck

We'll explain semi-transparent versus solid stain for your deck's age and condition, and how often each needs a refresh.

Every board, rail and step

Floors, railings, spindles and stair treads are covered as scoped, with siding, plants and patios protected.

Our process

How we handle deck staining, step by step

  1. 1

    Free on-site estimate

We look at the boards, rails and stairs, check the old finish, talk colors and stain types, and put the scope in writing.

  2. 2

    Clean and brighten

The deck is washed to remove dirt, mildew and gray fibers so the wood can absorb stain evenly.

  3. 3

    Dry and prep

The wood dries, rough spots are sanded, and loose boards or popped fasteners are flagged. Siding, plants and patios are protected.

  4. 4

    Apply stain

Stain is applied and worked into the floor boards, rails, spindles and stairs in thin, even coats.

  5. 5

    Cure and walkthrough

We walk the deck with you and tell you when it's ready for foot traffic and furniture.

  • Gray, sun-bleached boards
  • Slippery mildew in shaded corners and on stairs
  • Peeling or flaking old stain on walking surfaces
  • Cracks, splinters and raised grain
  • Water soaking in instead of beading up

What changes after a Revive project

  • Rich, even color across boards, rails and stairs
  • Water that beads up and rolls off
  • Wood protected from sun and moisture
  • A cleaner, safer surface to walk on
  • An outdoor space you'll want to use again

Deck Staining FAQ

Deck Staining questions from Central Arkansas homeowners

Don't see your question? Call us and we'll answer it.

Call 501-476-2706
How often should a deck be restained?

Semi-transparent stains on walking surfaces usually need a refresh every one to three years in Arkansas sun. Railings and vertical parts last longer. When water stops beading up, it's time.

How long should I wait to stain a new deck?

New pressure-treated pine needs to dry out first, often 30 to 60 days for a semi-transparent stain and longer for solid stain. We'll test the wood before we start.

Semi-transparent or solid stain?

Semi-transparent stain shows the wood grain and is easier to maintain. Solid stain hides more wear and color differences but can show traffic patterns sooner. We'll recommend one based on your deck's age and condition.

When can we use the deck again?

Usually light foot traffic the next day and furniture after a couple of days, depending on the product and weather. We'll give you exact timing.

Do you stain covered porches and stairs too?

Yes. Porches, stairs, railings, pergolas and wood privacy screens can be included in your estimate.

Are you licensed and insured?

Yes. Revive Paint holds an Arkansas Residential Home Improvement License (#0478560127), which covers painting, cabinets, concrete and special coatings, and we carry general liability insurance on every job.
